SYLC Advocacy Post 2: Bridging Differences

By Sadaf Usman, SYLC Team

The SEPLAA Young Leaders’ Club is a project of SEPLAA, a social enterprise that was launched in 2012. Running under the supervision of experts, SYLC is a one-of-its-kind initiative, run by children for children to explore the avenues of creativity, critical thinking , awareness, leadership and teamwork. Working on these paramount areas of personal and character development, SYLC goes further and connects these with causes of development and social welfare such as environment and education.
SYLC aims to bridge both distances and differences, be they of class, culture or region, bringing together youth from all segments of the society to improve mutual understanding and opportunities for children the world over. Our local initiatives give privileged students a chance to personally interact and share their learning and exposure with the underprivileged children of the society while our online community platform fosters enlightened global citizens of tomorrow.

sylcpeaceUpholding this vision, the ‘SEPLAA YLC International Peace, Social Entrepreneurship & Education School Project, 2016-2019’ was launched in December 2015. The program works in partnership with various local schools, SEPLAA’s international chapters and international NGOs as a means to induct more and more children towards becoming inclusive community members, critical thinkers, policy influencers, team players yet independent individuals.

In line with the theme, Peace and Education for the term January to April 2016, two community action plan streams were offered:

  • Capacity building of underprivileged school children at a SEPLAA adopted school
  • Youth Advocacy Program

The experience has been both enriching and memorable for the students, broadening their vision, giving them new perspectives and opening their eyes to greater possibilities.
